Atomic Absorption can be used to analyze over 50 different major, minor or trace elements in a wide range of inorganic or organic sample types. It is generally used to analyze liquids so solid samples must be digested first. AA is a single element technique so typically ICP-OES or ICP-MS is a faster and more cost-effective technique. Both AA and GFAA are typically used for quantitative analysis. Flame AA offers a high level of relative accuracy (± 1%). Graphite Furnace AA has an average accuracy of ±20% relative, which is suitable for reporting at the ultra-trace impurity level. AA analysis requires 2-5g of a solid sample or 100mL of a liquid and is priced on a “per element” basis. |
